The benefits of purchasing a generic domain name

The following is a short list of reasons why purchasing a quality generic domain name makes good business sense.
Increased Traffic
Generally generic domain names receive high amounts of "type-in traffic" whereby when users are searching for a product or service they will type the phrase directly into the browser address bar.
It's estimated that around 5% of all website users type keywords directly into their browser. Traffic that originates from type-in traffic (also refered to as direct navigation) is often high-quality targeted traffic that converts at a higher rate than search engine traffic, according to recent studies.
Credibility
Owning a generic domain name gives potential customers the impression that your are serious about what you do.
Marketing
Put simply, if your going to market your website on TV or radio it needs to be short and memorable so that people can type it into their browser at a later date.
Competition
Get your hands on domains directly related to your products or service before your competition does. A premium domain name owned by you is a domain your competition doesn’t own and can't use against you.
Get found on Google
Websites that ultilise search terms in their domain names increase the websites changes of top search engine rankings.
Research has shown that many users will not go past the first page of results on search engines and most will not go past the second page. Generally the top 3 results recieve the most traffic.
Valuable asset
Put simply domain names are like traditional real estate, and premium generic domain names are the beach front properties of the web.
Premium domain names go up in value faster than any other commodity on earth and retain there value for long periods of time. Generally, the more domains that are registered the more valuable premium domain names become and recently registrations for .com.au domain names surpassed the 1 million mark.
Low ongoing costs
Once a domain has been acquired, a .com.au only need to be renewed every 2 years for around $25-$70 depending on your registrar of choice.
